CLG is proud to have the support and advice of Jerome Davis, World Champion Bull Rider, and Lyle Sankey, the premier rough-stock instructor in the U.S.  Both are very knowledgeable and selective when it comes to the equipment they endorse.  

CLG PRO is part of this process and has to work harder than most to produce the thousands of quality ropes our customers purchase each year.  In order for CLG to meet these expectations, they work continuously at quality control and sourcing.  The ropes sold today are many times better than those sold even five years ago ... and the ropes of tomorrow will be even better.  Here's why:

CLG CUSTOM Select PRO Ropes are special order only with limited availability!  These ropes are braided by the guys who braided Jerome's ropes and for other top bull riders.  They must be up to their standards.  A little pricey -- but well worth it!

5/5 Plait:
The fewest number of plaits and therefore the coarsest braid, and the hardest to pull tight.  Similar in overall width to a 9 plait - but not as thick.  

7D/7D Plait: 
The "D" after the number "7" means deluxe (or fancy) 7 plait braid.  CLG's most experienced men braid 7 plaits like the 9 plait ropes.   The result is a tighter braid and a similar size to the 9's.  Available in limited quantities. 

9/9 Plait:
The greatest number of strands produces the finest and tightest braided ropes.  Overall size is similar to a 5 plait, although usually a little thicker, smoother, finer, and more uniform.  This is CLG's tightest braided ropes. 

COMBINATION PLAITS

7/5 Plait:
Combines a flat 7 handhold with a 5 plait tail.  This is still a lot of rope for the larger hand and is hard to pull tight.  See the pro tips below for additional comments. 

7D/5 Plait:
This rope combines the 5 plait tail with the Deluxe 7 handhold. 

9/5 Plait:
Clearly similar to the 9/9 in overall size, but the "5" plait tail gives you a little more bulk (sometimes called "mush") that many top bull riders have found to be very effective. 

All of CLG's Pro Bull ropes are top quality.  The choice of plait depends on what you feel most comfortable with.  I've used all of them and find that the design and quality of the rope is what counts the most.  That is the rope you'll have confidence in ... and ride your best with.  If you are just starting out, I suggest a Pro 5 plait (#305).  It is less expensive and has all the safety and functional features you want ... as well as being the choice of many top bull riders anyway.  If you like the stiff solid feel, then go with the Pro 9 plait (#309).   If you need something just between these standard plaits, consider the "combination" ropes:  7/5 with a wide grip and 5 plait tail (#306) or the 9/5 with a solid stiff handhold and 5 plait tail (#308).  - Lyle Sankey Pro Tip Courtesy of Lyle Sankey and CLG Pro Rodeo Products

CLG SUPER PRO ROPES were a wonderful success in their first year at CLG.  Made by the cream of the crop braiders, they feature full fancy blocks, rock hard inserts, laced "returns", and extra wide slide loops in addition to smooth, tight, and consistent braiding.  Available in a full laced handhold, these ropes compare easily with many custom ropes yet are fairly priced and a great CLG value.
