CULTURED COWBOY PRESENTS

 Big Horn Leather Saddles

Flex Tree Trail Saddles

Leather always holds a dear place in the hearts of riders. It allows some flexibility and some rigidity for horse and rider. Place one of the best comfort saddle systems in combination, above and below the tree, and now we have a winner!

Wrap your leather around a tree designed to flex properly with the movements of your horse, and you might just have reached perfection! The Equ-Fit flexible saddle tree is designed for rider and horse to enjoy a comfortable ride  together. This is not a treeless deal with no support. It is a high tech combination that has been proven to help in the fit of some hard to fit horses, proven to bend with the back of your horse in turns and hilltops and bottoms.

There is a pride in taking new leather saddles from "squeaky" to "broken-in". Cultured Cowboy recommends a lot of thin coats of properly PH balanced Lexol conditioner, applied all over everything except for bottom fleece and suede seats. Oiling your saddle and flexing the fenders, and stirrup leathers has become a popular service that we can offer for you. This way, your favorite endurance saddle comes really supple and ready to ride. We hand rub about 3 liters of Lexol into the saddle. Then we hand twist and lay the jockeys and fenders. When you give us your inseam, we will be sure everything is turned properly for your favorite stirrup length.

So, if you've used Lexol. the yellowy tallow sticks into the outer layers as well as the inner. Cultured Cowboy then uses about a 52 OZ bottle of extra Virgin Olive oil to drive everything back into the leather, and give a really rich, softened, finish to your leather. Just tell us you want us to "oil it" and we will. Takes a few more days to do properly, and adds about $120.00 to the price of a trail saddle. Know that the color will darken slightly too. This is normal when you add life giving moisture to your leathers. If you are ordering leather accessories, we can oil them too while we are at it. Be ready and be comfortable for your next competitive trail ride!

Big Horn center fire, or Texas rigged, (same thing, different names), saddles are a favorite with endurance, and trail ride participants. For competitive endurance, or any other pleasurable ride, this saddle lightens your load in more ways than one. Are you a fan of center fire rigging? (Sometimes, I'm drawn toward anything innovative.) It allows multiple positioning of your girth, both for best fit, and to move the girth around, preventing gall sores on your longer rides. The Big Horn trail saddles on this page have the front ring positioned at 7/8 position for a conventional rig, or you can incorporate the rear ring for the center fire tie. Best of both worlds!

Fitting comfort for your horse is really taken to extremes in the new Sil-Cush™ Design. Study the charts and diagram to see the benefits. Your horse will feel less pressures and those pressures are distributed most properly. Did you ever think NASA would help your horses?

Did you ever wonder how well your horse could perform if there were no inhibiting pressures on its body? Now is the time to find out. The bottom skirts of this saddle will absorb concussion, stay in place, and generally give you competitive advantage over your competition.

Sil-Cush is a product line manufactured in the USA, exclusively for Big Horn. The ultra durable silicone foam is also anti-microbial, actively killing bacterial growth. Sil-Cush has been tested at both Georgia Tech and a major US Defense Aerospace company. Traditional foams cannot withstand the durability issues of being on the saddle bars. Traditional foams bottom out.

Sil-Cush breathable silicone allows air to easily flow through, helping with moisture and heat issues. Sil-Cush molds to the horse's back shape as the back and  shoulder muscles work, distributing pressure for a "no pressure point fit". This eliminates sore backs for the horse and increases rider comfort.

Towards the bottom of this page is a picture of the bottom side of this remarkable technology. Then, there is a pressure mapping chart, developed by Georgia Tech, from their study on comparisons of typical and Sil-Cush technologies. This pressure map tells the story of comfort, and relief, your equine will enjoy. Remember too, that this same soft dissipation of concussion is also right under your seat bones too.

The perforated leather seat will give you all the advantages of a top grain seat, with a little more breathability, (airflow), from the perforated leather.

Then, Big Horn Saddle engineers go another step. Double comfort seating for the rider, and both the bottom and seat are wrapped in a perforated leather to allow airflow. more air circulation for your crotch and for the back of the horse. This includes the area where pressures are placed by tightening the saddle girth. The deep drop rigging is engineered not only for close contact, but for fitting better. When you sit in this new seat, you can understand that your horse will feel just as much difference in his back.

And, no one has to imagine why all those extra rings are handy. You can tie anything you need onto these trail saddles.

This Sil-Cush™system is going to be popular. BigHorn has committed to  endurance saddles, gaited horse saddles, full QH saddles, and reiner saddles with this special comfort and close contact design.

NOTE: All Sil-Cush saddles are temporarily on hold due to labor & supply challenges.

High Performance Halters: Another favorite is the BigHorn felt lined, (nose & crown) halter. What this means to you is that of all the halters we have used for almost 50 years, these seem to be best for leaving on the horse during longer periods of time. The nylon doesn't get hard like polypropylene halters. The felt allows this halter to be more comfy in most weather conditions. Padded nose & crown dry back fast without problems. This halter uses rated materials so that it should hold together for most pulls, but will break, or snap straighten with excessive effort that would have hurt your horse anyway. Easily repairable. Comes with a Warranty.  Snaps are easily replaced. Restitching with a standard leather type or heavy duty sewing machine , or by hand awl can be done. OR, the halter can be returned to us or to the maker, (clean), for repairs. 1 year warrantee coverage, (At our stables, ours average lasting over 10 years.) Hardware is brass type with no bad edges. 7624 is 3/4 inch nylon, (not polypropylene), with adjustable crown & nose with throat snap (which can  be twisted either hook in or out). Or get an extra brass chain with the HD snap lead for $6.99 extra.)

A moment of true honesty:  Are you going from website to website, dealer to dealer, to get your "best deal"? When you're planning, researching what you need, are you wasting your time or finding answers?  You've just found what you've been looking for.  - You are building a dream! You're both cautious and frugal. We are too. Somewhat picky and always curious. We gratefully assist hundreds of riders every year.  We thank you for your inquiry.

There was a time when maybe there was an occasional "deal" to be found. Someone didn't know what they had and sold it cheap. But today, the Internet and free enterprise has leveled that to fair pricing all around. And today, most of us can't afford this day's so-called "deals". Truth is that most of you looking only at price will be stung! Most of the "deals" are someone else's problems that they hope to pass to you now!

One business person commented that he had no problems how he made a real luxurious living. He made his fortunes off of the stinginess of greedy people. I will say that later in life, he found happiness through helping. Money is a medium of exchange - not an end to itself. Be wise!

Better quality saddles are not "Wal-Mart" items!  Somebody can always offer cheaper made products.  Some sell this same product only as a base item (Minimum accepted quality) so they can make a very interesting offer & get your attention. They either are large enough to have the saddle "slightly" "modified" for them for a larger margin, (economies of scale and need to cover extra costs of a large enterprise), or they offer a very small margin because they offer extremely limited service. (No skin in the game! These tend to not stay around very long.  And the saddle makers will usually have you to go through your no-longer-in-business dealer for warrantees. How ya gonna do that? Do you send it overseas fro repairs?) So you're stuck again.

Even name brands offer a variety of qualities so they stay in business. Have you held a conversation with your dealer? Can you even find a phone number? Are they considering your true inseam needs? Are they shipping the saddle "ready-to-ride", conditioned and with proper fittings and accessories/necessities, for your riding enjoyment? Are they answering your questions?  Have they even offered to have you send pics of your horses? Offer saddle tree forms? Advising you based on riding experience?  Know the options and explaining these benefits for YOU to choose?

Did you know that many saddle makers will make small "tweaks" for you that make the difference between Happiness and Calamity with your riding experience? (Dealers build a relationship of improving quality products with these makers, or with tweaks that make you want to trade again in just a couple years!)

I'm over 60, been a professional in this industry, (which is shifting in many ways, by the way) since 1974. Reality is that I have climbed both sides of the fence and straddled it too. To some competitors, I've been the "dirty discounter. I've sold the highest end too. Most times a happy medium of values are reached, depending on the needs of the buyer.  My most proud bragging rights were not when I made a "deal" because I was lowest price.

My bragging rights have been working with small families, beginning riding students, instructors, and up-and-coming professionals who had a horse or 30, and a rider, who had potential to really make it to professionalism! To see my clients' dreams come true is what makes my heart sing!

Or, for the retiring rider who understands what each hour is really worth! Who wants to enjoy their horse sport they love, rather than the agony, frustration, of "almost". When I can make a client happy, provide them with years of quality time, comfort, knowledge - That's the "deal" I like to do!

"Value Added" does have added value! You sleep good at night because you're working hard and steady, every day, to make dreams come true. And we're never bored!

You have to decide if YOU want to ride horses for the MAX enjoyment you can get with the limited hours you have, or if ya just wanna get by.   *** Almost any saddle sold on the web could do either. You need the right saddle for the right riding purpose.

If you want to win; if you need specifics to make your ride better; whether trails or arenas; If you want a coach to launch you further, Maybe we should talk.   God Bless You!  ChuckyT
