This isn't just any saddle. BigHorn decided to distinguish themselves from all other nylon/leather combination saddle makers. They sat down in a board meeting and asked, "How can we make a better, lightweight saddle, that will allow the stirrups to turn easy, for arthritis; something that any normal lady, or any person over 60, or a person under12, can lift." They decided to replace the skirts, stirrup leathers, and fenders with Cordura© nylon. It costs like leather. It is as strong as leather. 

But because Cordura© can be cut and sewn like in a garment shop, the cost savings come in the labor time making these parts. The bindings are specially turned from the same material, so you will not have edges falling loose. 

Leather, not synthetic, is next to your body's saddle block area. This lets your crotch breathe. No excessive sweating like there is with naugahide seats. The best stainless steel hardware is used, rather than the cheapest plated pot metal. No cheap Velcro imitation expected to hold your stirrups on.  No excessive stretching in spring or summer sunshine. No tearing or cracking in the cold weather from cheap vinyl pommel covers, or seats. No conchos, nails or screws breaking loose out of an inferior tree. (I hate to bash other makers, but these saddles are quality, and some of you have heard horror stories about other brands.)

My oldest children began, and rode these Big Horn saddles until they were older teens. We still use them today, 25 years later. These Barrel Racing saddles allow lots of free movement in the stirrups. The seat and cantle are designed for your security. The light weight is always a favorite with gymkhana. And when it's time to ride shorter trails, we just add strings and bags!

 Visco-Elastic Memory Foam gets its name because it is nearly indestructible. It never breaks down or compresses. It always returns to its original shape. Originally developed by NASA. This foam conforms to the body; (redistributing body weight and reducing skin pressures by 50%. ), Which greatly improves circulation, reduces spinal pressures, and gives more comfort on long rides! 

 Expect many years of good service from these Cordura saddles, and few repairs during that time.  Notice how the seat cushion skives to allow easy "shifting" of your cues, and closer contact with your horse. 

Flex Tree saddles can move with your horse as it makes strenuous bends. These movements not only happen in "Pole-Bending", but in the many dips and turns on an average hill filled trail. No, Flex will not make a bad fitting saddle work, but it will allow more generous use between many horses. For most horses with sway backs, high withers, or really rounded shoulders and flat backs, these saddles have more allowance for fitting. Use a good pad and enjoy your ride.

Note:  Because these Trail Saddles have such versatility, we can use trees that are semi QH, Gaited, Full QH, and a few others, to build to fit your horses.  And, some of the trees available will have the option of premium wooden trees. ( Wooden trees do add weight).  Due to the flexibility of the nylon skirts, The full Sil-Cush™ option can not be placed on your horse side, only the rider side.  

OK, Y'all asked - With a deeper heartgirth area on your saddle, there is less availability for twisting as you mount & dismount. The saddle wraps around your horse better. Using the Center Fire rigging option, we can place the girth in whatever position from straigt down 7/8ths to full center fire. This means you fine tune the positioning of your saddle, without interference  at the elbows of the horse. You can better fit more horses in their saddling "sweet spot". This means better pressure distribution on the body of the horse and more security for the rider. 
One good friend & long time customer, using a Reinsman pad, a BigHorn 9963 girth, and the model 309 Big Horn Trailsaddle, was able to stop pulling the girth so tight that it "bit" into her horse. Saddle positions properly. Much better than her previous lightweight saddle (Which cut weight by making the tree much smaller all around, especially the bars, allowing the saddle to slip, slop & slide. Under 20 lbs is not an advantage!).  Horse is more comfy and so are her rides!

We have been asked to explain the center fire rig concept. Here in these 3 surrounding pics, we see that the tie strap is easily moved to fit the position needed on your girth, to best fit that sweet spot each horse has for saddle fitting. I used to have my tie at the front ring, because that is how I always did it. Then, I saw a YouTube that showed the "knot" at the rear. Totally out of the way of my leg!

Another favorite is the BigHorn felt lined, (nose & crown) halter. What this means to you is that of all the halters we have used for almost 50 years, these seem to be best for leaving on the horse during longer periods of time. The nylon doesn't get hard like polypropylene halters. The felt allows this halter to be more comfy in most weather conditions. Padded nose & crown dry back fast without problems. This halter uses rated materials so that it should hold together for most pulls, but will break, or snap straighten with excessive effort that would have hurt your horse anyway. Easily repairable. Comes with a Warranty.  Snaps are easily replaced. Re-stitching with a standard leather type or heavy duty sewing machine , or by hand awl can be done.
