UPDATE - Justin
discontinued making their version, and the Chippewa
sister boot too. Cultured Cowboy has 2
alternatives you will see below. The first bunch
is This snake hunting boot from R.Watson boot company. Very nice. Heavy duty.
Zippered leg with a Velcro fastening leather cover. Non-slip
sole, buckaroo looking model. And for the price of many
not-snake-bite buckaroos. This boot is a
"winner" . Very protective! Looks
"cowboy" - $589.99 A few
sizes in stock, most made as the orders come in.
It's been a long time since I went
rattler hunting. In fact, it was at about the age
of 14, and in North Carolina, with my cousin Steve.
Steve and some friends were making extra money by
catching rattlesnakes and selling them. Their method was
to get into a wooded area and throw down some tin.
Later, they went back and flipped the tin sheets, hoping
to find some "good ones". They had reworked
some golf clubs into snake sticks. Sounded really like
an adventure. So, I had to go with them at least once.
My job was to hold the double
layered burlap sack while they put in the new snakes.
Now, I didn't exactly know this was my job until I was
in the thick of things. To make a long story short, It
would be pretty easy to put one snake in one bag. When I
got a whiff of all the snakes were going into one bag,
(doubled of course to help prevent getting bitten), I
could see ten snakes all trying to jump out at my hands
and face while the next snake was going into the bag...
Well, I'm still here, so you can
guess the end of this tale!
We didn't have these nice RWatson Snake boots. We didn't have any gloves
thicker than
a welders glove.
Thanks for making these
boots so that a trip in the wilderness might be somewhat
safer. Of course, I do not recommend our burlap sack
gathering method!
Proper foot care today will pay
tremendous dividends in all your years to come. Cheap
made shoes create all sorts of problems years from now.
And soft bottom tennis shoes, designed for active
sports, were never made to wear all day. Certainly
not for traipsing around in a snake habitat !
A second snake bite prevention
boot is from Twisted X, the
Viper boot. Lightweight, almost reminds you of an Indian
moccasin. Waterproof to just above the ankle. It's been
very popular. Price is more popular priced at $274.99.
