For most of
America, and for much of the world, we are entering one of the
best riding seasons. Do you look forward to seeing the grandeur
of fall leaves changing, as much as I do? As much as I do relish
Spring & Summer, the relief of cooler weather and fewer bugs
is remarkable.
So, in
preparation for this riding season, Cultured Cowboy is making a
few recommendations. These recommendations are based upon what
you, our friends, have appreciated in the past few years. And
upon some of the latest products found in our world of
horsemanship.
Cultured Cowboy
has suddenly, in the past two years, been selling more trail
saddles than any other category. We have added the Cashel
saddles, made by Martin Saddlery. Still our biggest sellers
are the Cordura/leather combos by Fabtron and BigHorn,
& the SilCush
BigHorns. And speaking of Cashel, did you know this is one
innovative group? Cultured
Cowboy revamped their offerings on our site with novelties that
will become staples in our personal trail riding gear.
Last long ride
I took, I marveled at God’s creation. I marveled at colors,
wildlife, streams, and mountain features. I marveled at how sore
my thighs got. (Maybe I need a SilCush for myself, in addition
to my favorite hard seat roper. Maybe over 50 is a time for
creature comforts?)
Time is so
short, for me, that the addition of more saddle bags, horn bags,
pocket pads and trailer organizers allow us to be ready to go at
a moment’s notice. (Sometimes, that’s all we get.) So we can
now better plan and stock our gear, for when opportunity to ride
together does come, we don’t have to spend hours packing the
trailers. (See these bags at the Weaver
Leather & Cashel parts
of our website.
There’s a
young rider whom I kinda have taken under my wing for a while. I
think this ride was the first time she actually had gone, as
prepared. She, and
other riders appreciated that I had a plastic baggie to put the
cell phones into, inside my horn bags.
Our phones worked when we finished the ride! (All our
jeans were soaked, even with the dusters, I should invest in
those rain pant cover things.)
Easyboots are
becoming a viable solution for horses like mine. My riding is
sporadic. Although I know how to shoe a horse as well as any,
getting a degree in farrier science confirms that if a horse can
go barefoot and natural, it is best to keep angles and points
trimmed in shape, so nature can do its work. The Easyboot
option allows us to give extra protection when it is needed, and
still allow natural flexing of the hooves, unrestricted by
necessary nails and steel plate. Davis Boots are an easier to
apply solution for riding around your property.
Ok, with the
cooler weather comes a need for coats, jackets & dusters.
Choose among Schaefer, Outback
Trading, or Kakadu. These
guys have the market covered on stylish water proof and
resistant clothing. All are good products that can be rolled
onto your skirt, behind the cantle, and jerked out fast in case
of rain. Also, coming soon are Key Industry coats. Cultured
Cowboy has been selling the Key brands, Lakin McKey & Key,
in our store for a few years. They have Carhardt type products,
sturdy workwear, hoodies,& such at a very good price.
I guess some
would call me a “clothes horse”. Not that I wear fancy
stuff, but I do get to try out all sorts of things for all sorts
of weather. This time of year, I like layers. It is really cool
in the mornings, noon to 3 gets downright hot again, then you
would sweat and freeze when evening came again, if you had to
wear all that warmth during the day.
Fly season is
done, but now we need to look at horse clothing. Weaver, and
others have good canvass turnout rugs, and stable blankets. The
Sleazy that looked so cool at the show arena makes a great inner
liner too. Call us
for some special prices, and to let us know what options you
need for your horses. I like leg straps, closed fronts, and
layers that don’t twist around easily, but that doesn’t work
for everybody.
Christmas is
coming. Don'tcha imagine some great trail riding stuff would sure be appreciated
from Santa. If you need Santa’s helpers, here we are - www.culturedcowboy.com

God Bless you
& your horses,
Chuck
