Centrally located in the lakeslands area of South Carolina, Greenwood is 75 miles west of Columbia, SC, about 55 miles south of Greenville, SC, 70 miles north of Augusta, GA, and 50 miles from Aiken, SC.  Greenwood County is home to a population of 60,000.  Although the weather service maintains our climate to be moderate, it's not unusual to see winters as cold as 28°F or summers as hot as 100°F.  Greenwood is home to many large industries, such as Fuji, Kemet, Capsugel, Greenwood Mills, and National Textiles.  Lander University and Piedmont Technical College are our post-graduate schools.  Greenwood offers exciting riding trails at Parson's Mountain and Fell Hunt Camp.  Land is somewhat affordable for those who wish to purchase small horse farms. Our local realtors will be most happy to accomodate your needs.  For those who like water, there is Greenwood State Park located on Lake Greenwood.   Greenwood Chamber of Commerce hosts the Festival of Flowers each year highlighted by Park Seed Co. flower exhibition.  Even our city police force has a small horse division.  We are so proud!  Thurday mornings several horsey people congregate for breakfast at the Kountry Kookin' Cafe.   Our area is home to several horse trainers and breeders.  Tennessee Walking Horses, Quarter Horses, Paints, Jumpers - we have a little bit of everything.  Neighboring Ware Shoals, SC is home of one of South Carolina's largest IPRA Rodeos held at River Oaks Arena.
