Hondo
Buckaroo, Ranch, Work & Western Dress Boots
|
If you
came to this page from our Ad in Western Horseman,
please let us know. We think the quality of Hondo
brand
well matches the readers of Western Horseman
magazine.
Made for real cowboys and those who dream of
becoming real cowboys. And for those who simply
dream of a less complex lifestyle.
(SKip
the rest of this essay & go below o the boots,
unless yer curiosity is peaked!)
OK, so
this is personal for Cultured Cowboy. I'm
almost 70 yrs. Had a dream store for decades.
(Moderately Big, 2 stories with a 2nd level
mezzanine.) Have a chance to achieve it. Found a
property that is rough & wooded. Got 1st
round approval of County planning board.
Backs up to an expanded city park proposal with
trails around a pond. (Pets & people will love
the park.) (We will promote it.)
I'll incorporate a lot of "flower child"
"Foxfire" books stuff. Passive
ground temp cooling. Solar south windows & tromb
areas for passive heating. Roof windows for lighting
and air circulation. Attic type fans. Wood stove
back up heating. Room to showcase our/your
lifestyle, inviting suburbanites into "God's
environment! Truth is: I do more "preachin
behind the hat counter than I do in pulpits.
And will continue to positively influence everyone
whose lives we can touch, whether the store shifts
locations a couple blocks, or stays at the present
location, till I'm no longer able to perform. (At
18, I was told by a very successful mentor,
"Your only ability to succeed is in your
ability to perform". And later, at 19,
"Never marry your business". And
later, I read, "No man is an island".
Another mentor. "If you help enough people
achieve their dreams in life, yours will come
true".
We need to get our sales doubled in 2025 over 2024,
before we move in 2026. Years ago, I turned
all my property into a family trust. (Gotta prove
the viability to the trust. Irrevocable. (Why a
trust? Legal smarts - a life of breaking horses,
inviting cowboys, newbies, families, kids, over to
the horse farm & rodeo arena, riding lessons,
rodeo practice pens, etc.
"1-800-I-Will-Sue-Cost-U-Nothing" lawyers
continuously pestered me.) With no real assets
now, as the last 999-999 9999 type discovered, who
cost me "easy monthly payments" to cover
the over $80,000 in court surrounding costs to
defend myself, and because I had a good viable
defense, he told the patsy client, "It's not
worth my time." I COULD NOT SUE for
recovery of my costs: neither the want something for
nothing, lying client, nor the person who
suggested the legal suit, nor the out of state
attorney, to recover my costs because of laws
protecting the rights of attorneys. This was
the 7th such incident. (My attorney charged only a
fee of $1500.00 of that amount.
The balance was such as: We caught the guy guy
throwing hay bales with a shoulder that was disabled
for life, from falling off a bull and lying about
his age, while his Dad was at the event with
consent. Ya can't have as admissible the rodeo
secretary doing this video recording. Gotta have a
"Court appointed Videographer" to drive
4.5 hours from Columbia, SC to record, and then
back, And pay that hourly price plus.
(Such are Univ of SC too many attys turned
loose every year, control of SC state
laws.) (And some of my close buddies are
legitimate "Legal Eagles". Dudes,
Ladies, go into a different, actually God blessed,
practice, rather than the lucrative "personal
injury" field. Rewards from above are greater
than short term $$$'s)
(1st legal happened at my age 17, first year I was
on my own. I learned not to rent horses for trail
rides after that one. Dude purposefully ran my horse
into a barbed wire fence. Jumped off into a bunch of
honey suckle, and claimed epilepsy as a result. WHAT
A CROCK. A group of 4 were sent to find a lawsuit,
thinking I had parents who would pay the $$$.
This right after 2 tornados devastated our home
& barn. Parents had moved away & at 17, I
wanted to stay, rebuild, and continue the
lifestyle.). No one ever won any suit. They either
settled out of court with my insurance companies,
who then would drop my possibilities of ANY
insurance coverage, or dropped the lawsuit for lack
of their profitability. - Thus I own
nothing (Irrevocable trust), but the debts of any of
my endeavors.
Seems,
I need to justify the move from 4800 sq ft to a
20,000 two story (40,000 2 story potential sq ft)
building to the trustees. (Irrevocable means
irrevocable! I understand this.) I
really need an army of people who share the cowboy
lifestyle to help spread the quality of what
Cultured Cowboy offers you, and our need for
supplying all your needs, to make this vision, this
dream, happen. The larger, more efficient
facility will enable us, Cultured Cowboy, to
continue serving you even better. Graduates of
Piedmont Tech gunsmithing school have no place to
work except their spare bedroom. - We'll give then a
counter to work. Sloan, as old as I am. who's
back in his family's decades old shoe/boot repair
shop after a retirement, has expressed interest in
joining with us. (Wouldn't it be cool to get yer
boots fixed where ya bought them?)
After all, have we not all seen how many family
Western stores have closed due to increased costs of
business? (7500 in 1974 hay day, now very
few) Higher tax rates, insurance rates, long
hours, government regulations, employee related
expenses (Obama Care required insurance, matching
SS, perks, training, etc - And people do need a
better than existence working wage!). Owner's
children who just cannot choose their family
generational business over easier opportunities in
more corporate offers. I have 7 between stes
& blood. The store opened opportunities for each
to go their way. Love that! (Too much work for the
return? Have most forgotten the lessons growing up
in a family oriented business?) (Even SC DSS has
threatened me more than once for my children not
living "The DSS preferred LIFESTYLE".
) Only the 13 yr old, Ariella is interested in
"maybe".
We need you, if you share in the dream of keeping
our/your lifestyle available. (Or do ya really want
to only have the Tractor Supply/Boot Barn to select
from?) (Do you want the best bootmakers / boot
providers to succumb to the pressures of economics
& long hours? DO ya like those cheap boots where
the lining pulls out with your foot, or sweat rots
it, or glue on soles fall off while working? Yer
feet stink from excess sweat? Bacteria? Fungi? short
pressed paper heel counters that mush over with any
wet? No support in your ranch work? Plastic, or
worse, toe box that almost guarantees "athletes
foot" toes. )
Don't
get me wrong - Greenwood, SC decided after several restaurants
opened near my location, that I could not be
grand-fathered in and had to quit selling feed - a
major draw to my store. Tractor Supply opened
in a" gerrymandered" county location, with
different rules, and I buy my feed there. I like
those guys. They provide a needed service.
Love Boot Barn. Their employees cannot adequately
custom shape hats, steam/fit boots, sell better
boots/hats, etc. Boot Barn's nearest locations are
an hour away and they have a bunch of them. They
send Cultured Cowboy several customers each
month. I love America. And we cannot exist
without our government.
Truth is, as a former Top 10 facilitator with the
world's largest Executive & Business Coaching
(including Team Coaching) group, coaching.com, I
don't financially need the store. It's the only
business ever "married". (Dude, Mr Adams,
who said, "Never marry your business",
started off in the Great Depression as a young
banker. Became a huge stock owner of what was
Greenwood Bank to become Banker's trust to become
whatever they are now merged into. LB Adams, as he
told me, was one of the last employees of the bank.
They came to let him go because of uncertainties of
the 1930's times. He said, "You pay me more
than I need. I can live with my parents. You need me
to help operate. The bank, not knowing whether
they would be open tomorrow, and upon LB's
recommend, paid him in bank stock, and gave him at
that time a huge raise in stock, to stay. - I love
this story! It inspires me today! Mr Adams and his
brother owned 8000 acres in Greenwood County at one
time. Over 2000 acres next to my small 20.7 acres.
Can you believe, he took me under his wing? Because
he had horses & mules, which as a child he
plowed behind, and our relationship with the love of
horses, he allowed full access to all the
neighboring land he owned.)
What I
know is: No dream ever happens without th help of
many, many people, and the blessings of either God,
or Satan. Venture through culturedcowboy.com and
you'll see I follow the Christ, not the Anti-christ.
I love the lifestyle and the coaching opportunities
afforded by Cultured Cowboy. Thank you for
your prayers, your trust, your patience in delivery
of some styles, and for sharing the "Great
American Dream" of hope for a better life for
our future great-grands. Love you
guys! How can we serve each other as a team,
going forward? As dream makers? As brothers &
sisters in Christ? May the rewards from Above
drive your ambitions!
Enjoy!

Cultured
Cowboy discovered Hondo Boots many years ago. Their
quality has been consistent, and excellent. As other
companies have chosen to build with
"pressed" component parts, Hondos have
maintained the standards developed and perfected
over years of hand crafting "using" boots
for the working cowboys. We began with the
rodeo boots, buckaroos boots and bullhide western
boot styles. Now. we committed to any style
Hondo makes, and special orders. Style 2012 (shown
in detail at bottom of this page) is still among our
most
popular. We are also having this 2012 styling custom
made with a
rubber sole and black upper like the old Tony Lama
6014,.
As
fashion changes toe styles, Hondo boot can adapt
too. The square toe, rough out style 1758 is one of
Hondo's best sellers. Yet, for those who have grown up with a
favorite like a round toe buckaroo, they will make
them for you. (2026 is on their Faster shipping
list.) Their spur rests will support your
spurring needs. Heel counters are substantial enough
that normal pressures will not make the heel buckle
under. Their leathers are selected for the use you
will put them through. You'll notice the leather
bottom boots will usually outlast the wear of the
industry norms.
This
year, rough side out, thicker leather vamps are also
becoming more popular. But it's hard to replace a
great pair of bullhide dress boots for your
lifestyle. These textured hides
are resilient, resist barnyard acids as well as a
smooth leather can, and polish back up for a nice
date.
Hondo
boots tend to fit full. Expect to "pull"
them on. They're made to run, jump, chase cows, catch
horses, fence work, branding, ... So they'll give
you a "plop" sound as they go on. (They do
come off easier than on, for those of you who aren't
used to a more supportive ankle area.
From
Hondo's website
: For
over fifty years, Hondo Boot Company has built durable,
all-leather boots with a tradition for quality. In
an age where computerized assembly and synthetic
materials are substituted to cut costs, our master
bootmakers hand-last Hondos one pair at a time.
Inside every pair you get leather insoles,
nailed stacked sole leather heels, cowhide lining,
steel shanks, and a traditional Goodyear welt
construction sewn directly into the leather insoles
(for those who know).
The Hondo Boot line caters to the varied activities
of seasoned boot wearers, with styles designed for
dress, riding, or ranch wear. Some styles may
feature spur heels, double layered insteps (thats
called a Saddle), soles weighted by midsoles, rubber
soles, or other functional elements.
For greater appeal, our stitch patterns colorfully
accentuate vamp hues. We carefully trim and treat
each boot for an impeccable finish.
Hondo Boots are handcrafted with pride. It is part
of our values to build a comfortable, durable, and
repairable boot no matter what it takes.
If you need a boot
for real "cowboying", This might soon become your
favorite. We carry a variety in stock,
but with each boot hand crafted, it takes time. ( 7
months on some styles, 12 months on others. Yet
those with a "Star", we probably have in
stock in many sizes, or they have a much faster
delivery. In our stock go out within 2 days.
Fast stock in about 3 weeks.) Their growing popularity and high standards are
having many styles waiting for 2 to 7 months. So try
to plan ahead in this unusual Post-Covid world we're
experiencing has continued forward. We've seen
everything from leather shortages to labor
shortages.
Fil Jr Is
doing his best by expanding production, yet - Only
with skilled craftsmen! THank you fopr your
patience. Truth is many custom bootmakers are at
least 24 months out. Anybody interested
in making boots? Call us! - It's OK to
put a deposit down and finish paying as the boots,
(Many styles we require no deposit) become ready to ship your way. They are worth the
wait. And we might have your pair in stock.
If you have seen our
ads in "Western Horseman" mag, please let
us know. Ditto Rodeo LIfe, or CSMA
Rundown. If you have a fav mag, let us
know. We are planning to be published in 6 -
10 mags for 2026. Honestly we need you!
We're looking to expand into a new piece of dirt
with building a 20,000 sq ft 2 story facility
to better serve you. I know I'm about to be 70
yrs old, But I love this boot company, our customers
like you, and the ability to still
serve!

Leather Sole of Hondo Buckaroo Boot
Notice the channel sole stitching extends fully from heel to
heel. Heel cap is the same rubber used on a 40,000
mile tires. Heel cap is glued and nailed for security.
Fully leather lined to the toe for your greatest
comfort and durability. No inside lining pulling
lose as you take your foot out

|
Notice the
thickness of the sole and true stacked leather heel and
the spur rest. Heel is underslung for ease of
walking & fully under your heel for support. This
boot is designed for days in the saddle.

Hondo uses a
saddle vamp to keep your spur strap from binding
into your foot instep. When a boot is made properly
a single row stitch works well. It's the knotting of
the thread in the midst of the sole that holds the
boot in place. Hondo uses an extra hard sole for
greater durability.

Toe 15 is squared like the 11 toe, but undercut.
Now, often being called a "cutter"
toe because of the ease in finding your
stirrup over the broader toes.
