Personal
safety in hazardous environments: High visibility
can play a crucial role in preventing accidents
& ensuring the welfare of workers, and their
communities.
Class
3 Hi-Visibility garments: The class 3 provides
the most background material & the most
reflective striping. A vest must have at
minimum, 1240 Square inches of safety yellow or
safety orange background & at least 310 square

clothing often have sleeves. Hi-Vis Coats, HI-Vis
Sweatshirts, Hi-Vis pants and other clothing may
have more Sq Inches of High Visibility.
Class
3 (Type R) HSVA safety vests have the highest
material requirements compared to Class 2 &
Class 1. The industry rule of thumb is that
worksites with traffic traveling over 50 MPH should
require Class III safety vests.
Who needs this? Tow truck Operators,
Incident site Investigators, Road Construction
Workers, Roadside Assistance, Utility workers,
School crossing Guards, Parking Attendants, to name
a few!
A
minimum of 2 inch (50mm) width for retroreflective
materials and 1 inch (25mm) width retroreflective
materials for split trim design.
Class
2 High Visibility garments: For levels of visibility
in low light or complex backgrounds. Typically used
when traffic speeds do not exceed 50 MPH.
Class 2 must have a minimum of 775 square inches of
reflective tape. 2 inches wide & typically
placed around the torso & shoulders. The
addition of reflective tape requirements separate
the Class 2 from Class 1. (Class 1 is not ANSI
approved. Class 2 & Class 3 are.) Visibility is
enhanced from several angles. A minimum of 450
square inches of high visibility fluorescent fabric.
Typically lime green, yellow or orange.
All
the benefits of a "hoodie" with the safety
necessary for you & your crew(s). And - when
required for work, there are probably favorable tax
benefits to discuss with your accounting dept.
It's
Spring of 2024 as I write this page. Just a
few weeks ago, night temps were at freezing in
SC. Yet, as an Internet provider, Cultured
Cowboy has to remember that our clients south of the
equator need cool weather gear while we swelter in
heat. Last Christmas, on a Zoom meet, New
Zealand was in swimwear!
Cool
thing - when you get these Hi-Vis jackets, it's
almost always for more than one season. You'll
get your $$$'s worth!
